bonsai role models

On day five we paid a visit to the GSBF Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt to see some other trees...


Left: San Jose juniper (Juniperus chinensis var. chinensis cv. ‘San Jose’) Donated by John Castle. Purchased as an undeveloped shrub from Yamaguchi Bonsai Nursery in Los Angeles in 1974. Styling has been ongoing since 1974. Tree started from a cutting approximately 1945.)


Right: Japanese black pine (kuro-matsu in Japanese) (Pinus thunbergiana) Donated by Jimmy Inadomi, long-time president of Fuji Bonsai Club of Oakland. Tree started from seed approximately 1955.
